"Of all that I do in the community with The Aramaic Way, the talks and teachings feed me most deeply. I am always amazed that others are drawn to the Aramaic path, as I was; and always honored beyond measure to be the instrument through which someone has that magical, unmistakable 'Aha!' moment that signals a tumble down the Aramaic rabbit hole."
Down the Aramaic Rabbithole ...
Maryn Boess has studied, practiced, and taught the "Aramaic Jesus" since 1998, when her first encounter with the sound of the Aramaic language at the end of a five-day Unity Village silent retreat sent her plummeting down a very deep rabbithole, from which she hopes never to emerge.
Maryn delves into a rich variety of resources for her Aramaic explorations. Her primary inspiration and teacher, though, has been internationally renowned scholar/author Neil Douglas-Klotz, Ph.D., whose richly poetic interpolations of the Aramaic Lord's Prayer have captured the spiritual imagination of tens of thousands since his first book Prayers of the Cosmos was published in 1990.
- Maryn has spent over 400 hours studying with Dr. Douglas-Klotz in person, across the U.S. and in Europe. In 2010 she graduated with the first class of his Abwoon Interspiritual Leadership Program, an intensive three-year training in leading spiritual practice, meditation, and body prayer in a multi-disciplinary, interfaith context.
- Maryn has also been blessed to study informally with Aramaic scholar and author Dr. Rocco A. Errico, who pronounced her a "colleague in the Aramaic work" and accorded her the honorary title Raba - an Aramaic word meaning "wisdom teacher."
- In 2009 she completed a four-credit course in Aramaic language and culture, offered through the Ishtar Cultural Center in Detroit and taught by native Aramaic speaker Mahir Awrahem.
- In 2010, Maryn's portfolio of independent and guided studies, field experience, and teaching earned her a Master of Arts Equivalency in Aramaic Studies from Wisdom University (now Ubiquity University).
The first class Maryn taught on Jesus' Aramaic Prayer, in 2007, attracted exactly two people - one of whom was her best friend. Since then, she has shared The Aramaic Way through experiential workshops and study groups in communities from Napa, CA; to Phoenix, AZ; to Columbus, OH; to Washington, DC. Sometimes she can even be found "guest preaching" of a Sunday morning.
